The work of academic Schools and Careers & Employability to foster the development of student employability depends ultimately on students themselves engaging with the learning opportunities presented to them.
Higher education institutions vary in how explicit they are in articulating to students their responsibilities for engaging with learning and personal development opportunities. Institutions with Personal Development Planning policies may hold an advantage in this respect, providing such policies are widely communicated.
This section on student involvement considers the responsibility of students as individual learners together with the use of student charters and such policies to increase awareness and engagement. It also recognises the role of Student Union activities in developing employability
