Working Locally

Why stay in Norwich and Norfolk?

Whilst many graduates feel free to move away to where their gradute work life takes them, or move back to their native areas, the plentiful attractions of the Norwich and Norfolk lifestyle have often been sufficiently seductive that a high proportion of UEA graduates stay in the area.

After all, when so many big city folk have homes in Norfolk, is it not more sensible to just start in the area? For others, either born locally or mature students with local commitments, family circumstances may add an additional imperative to remain in and around Norwich after graduation. The relatively low cost of living and geographic remoteness of the Norfolk 'cul-de-sac' can also be factors in the decision to stay locally. Of course, it's also possible that other, subconscious emotions, when mixed with local market conditions, make staying local simply the easiest option. This is perhaps unfair to Norwich, once England's second city after London, when Norfolk was the powerhouse of the British medieval economy. Today Norwich is vibrant, buzzing with cultural vitality, with a regenerated city centre and a country hinterland offering much sought-after recreational opportunities.
