Employability Week

The first of three Employability Weeks for students will take place from 17-23 October.

Careers & Employability are working alongside the Student Union to promote the week’s events and raise awareness about the importance of developing a broad range of skills and experience while at university.

Employer talks will include a presentation from Lisa Christensen, head of Children’s Services at Norfolk County Council, about the public and voluntary sectors. UEA alumni will also take part in a lunchtime workshop to talk about their journey into business.

Other topics to be covered include how to get into journalism, careers in humanities, and tips for graduate training programme applications.

The week starts on October 17 with a Teaching Fair for EDU graduates, followed by the annual Careers Fair with around 40 organisations represented on October 19.

Sue Everest, from Careers & Employability, said: “There are a host of activities, talks, fairs and workshops taking place throughout the year and all cross campus. Employability Weeks are really designed to give each term a focus and bring new employers on to campus.

“This term we are hoping that Employability Week will make you think about what you need to do next – regardless of whether you’ve just started at university, or are well on the way to finals."

“With around 40 organisations represented at the Careers Fair, it’s a great opportunity to find out more about graduate schemes, different industries and what employers might be looking for. Remember to do your research, and better still, come along to the preparation workshops on October 17 and 18.”

The week is one of three throughout the year. February’s Employability Week will focus on work experience, including when and how to get it. And The Edge Employability week at the end of the academic year aims to help graduating students make decisions.
