BIO in BiotechYES final

BIO's BiotechYES finalistBIO's Nicole Ward, Danielle Blackwell, Ines Desanlis, and Marta Marin Barba from BIO are competing in the Biotech YES final in London on 10 December, with their idea for the development of a non-invasive test for depression, based on a hypothetical metabolite produced by the breakdown of serotonin in the brain.

Biotech YES, now in its 20th year, is an innovative competition designed to raise awareness of the commercialisation of bioscience ideas among early career researchers, and requires teams to develop a business plan for a company based on a hypothetical but plausible idea based on real markets.

UEA’s team came up with a business model similar to that for diabetic glucose sticks, where the company gives away the detector and makes money on the consumables.

The winning team will receive £2,500 and an opportunity to attend the 2016 Rice Business Plan Competition in Houston, Texas.

Good luck team BIO.
