Life in our research group
My group has a long history of research into the physiology, biochemistry and molecular genetics of a range of different bacteria and bacterial-driven processes. It has a special ethos of inter-disciplinarity, which couples the powers of genetics and genomics to area of bacterial physiology and biochemistry. Much of our work is supported by the BBSRC, with other support including the Wolfson Foundation, the European Union and US Department of Energy. We are superbly equipped for this type of work, with analytical suites for gas and anion analysis, a range of fermenters in a recently refurbished Royal Society Wolfson Fermentation and Bioenergy Laboratory and an extensive suite of protein purification and protein-protein interaction facilities. Being part of the Norwich Research Park, my group has intimate and widespread links with microbiologists and biochemists at the Institute of Food Research and the John Innes Centre. We have a number of collaborations around Europe, North America and Australia and students and post-doctoral researchers in my group all get the opportunity to travel to collaborators research laboratories and to give presentations at international meetings as well as giving informal seminars in regular group meetings.PhD Positions
