Sir Paul Nurse, the Nobel prize-winning geneticist, is to succeed Lord Martin Rees as president of the Royal Society, Britain's national scientific academy.
The nomination of Sir Paul, currently president of Rockefeller University in New York and previously head of Cancer Research UK, is no surprise.
