The ocular lens: a classic model for development, physiology and disease

A themed issue of Philosophical Transactions B has been co-edited by Dr Michael Wormstone (BIO) that showcases the scientific knowledge of the processes involved in the development, physiology and pathology of the ocular lens.

The lens is a uniquely transparent structure with many very interesting properties and has been referred to as the "sparkling jewel" of anatomy. Overall, this themed issue highlights the ocular lens as a continuing and very important model system for biologists working in many different areas.
