Bioanalytical Laboratories

The Bioanalytical Laboratories contain a range of instruments that have been procured with support from BBSRC, Wellcome Trust and HEFCE (SRIF3) for examining the interaction of biological macromolecules in solution.

Far UV CD spectroscopy provides information about the way proteins fold whilst Analytical Ultracentrifugation (AUC) gives information about their subunit composition and conformation.

The thermodynamics of protein:ligand interactions are probed using a Isothermal Titration Calorimeter (ITC) whilst rates of association between molecules can be explored with a range of rapid-reaction techniques including stopped-flow spectrometers fitted with interchangeable detectors (UV/Vis, fluorescence, CD) and a laser-flash spectrometer. Steady state spectroscopic investigations are catered for by recently purchased Carey 4000 UV/Vis spectrophotometer and a Carey Eclipse Fluorimeter which is equipped with a plate reader for high sample throughput. The facilities are available for both UEA researcher and external users.
