Key Research Interests
Dr McLaughlin’s research focuses upon race and politics in 20th century America. He is currently completing a book about President Lyndon Johnson, civil rights, and the riots of the 'long hot summers' of the 1960's, and he has recently begun work on a new project about the inner city, race, and environmental inequality. His first book, Power, Community and Racial Killing in East St. Louis (2005), is a study of a racial massacre that took place in the industrial city of East St. Louis, Illinois, in 1917.
