Current Roles –

PhD Student

I am currently studying for my PhD at the University of East Anglia (UEA), in the School of Allied Health Professions.  I started in October 2008 and hope to complete in Sept 2011. The title of my project is ‘An Exploration of the factors which influence the working lives of people with Early Inflammatory Arthritis’. 


Associate Tutor

I also have a role as an Associate Tutor in the School of Allied Health Profession teaching sessions on Pain Management, and assisting with orthotics tuition on the MSc and Undergraduate OT programmes.


Research Associate

At present I am involved as a Research Assistant, working with Dr Maggie McArthur on the EFFORT Project examining the experiences of service users and service providers of NHS foot health care provision for people with Rheumatoid Arthriti 


Clinical Career

  • I have been working as an Occupational Therapist (OT) in the Norfolk area since 1996.   Most of my career has been spent working in an Out Patient setting, predominantly with Rheumatology, Orthopaedic, Hand Trauma and Chronic pain patients.  Since 2002 I have specialised in the management of people with chronic pain in the community and local pain management centre.
  • I am a member of the Specialist Section in Rheumatology and Work for OTs, and the local Rheumatology network group.

  • BSc Hon Degree Occupational Therapy dissertation 1994 - Qualitative research - interview based project, exploring the clinical practice of Occupational Therapists in promoting motor recovery in patients with hemiplegia.
  • MSc Occupational Therapy Dissertation 2002 - Mixed methods research - evaluating the effectiveness of relaxation in women with Rheumatoid Arthritis
