MED, AHP and NSC Undergraduate Students

Welcome to the UEA Accommodation page for prospective Undergraduate students of the Schools of MED, NSC and AHP.

We recommend that you open up and print off our room comparison chart (below) for undergraduate MED, NSC and AHP students to refer to whilst you look at the different types of accommodation available to you.  You may also find it useful to refer to a map of the campus. We also strongly recommend that you attend one of the UEA Open Days or Visit Days during which you will be able to visit our accommodation and look at some of our rooms. We hope that you also find our pages on Living in Residences useful.

Room Comparison Chart

As an undergraduate MED, NSC or AHP student your course is longer than the standard UEA undergraduate course so you will need to stay in UEA Accommodation for longer than the standard 38 weeks we normally offer. Because of this we do have to limit the buildings that we offer you however you still have the full range of room type options available to you. Each flat in a designated MED, NSC and AHP area will normally have half students from one of these courses and half students from the rest of the courses that we offer. That way you will be able to easily meet students from all over the University.

The prices in the chart below show the cost for one week in the individual residences. To find a yearly rate please multiply this figure by the number of weeks for your course:

MED Foundation Year - 38 weeks
All other MED courses - 44 weeks
NSC courses - 44-46 weeks (depending on individual course)
AHP courses - 42 weeks

Am I guaranteed a room in UEA residences?

As long as you meet the guarantee criteria, have been accepted by UEA as a student and have applied by the application deadline (see above) you will be guaranteed a bed in UEA accommodation (unless you have been made the offer of a place at UEA which specifically excludes the offer of a room in our residences). Please read our accommodation guarantee.

When should I plan to arrive at UEA?

For international students the arrivals days are Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th of September 2012.  You will be able to collect your key from 10am until 8pm from the LCR (see Campus Map).  However, we recommend that you plan to arrive before 5pm when all of the shops, banks, schools of study are open. For UK students, depending on the residence that you are allocated you will be allocated a room from either Saturday 22ndor Sunday 23rd of September 2012 and your key will be available for collection between 10am and 5pm. Your arrival date will be confirmed on your room offer e-mail.

Some NSC and MED students will have an earlier start date and we will allocate your room accordingly.  You should anticipate arriving at UEA during our opening hours on the Friday before your course starts.

When should I apply?

The online application process will be available from late January (date to be confirmed). Please ensure that you have read the Terms and Conditions of the Licence before you complete that application form. There is no rush (deadline and guarantee information is below) so please take time to read through all the information and to consider your preferences. The application deadline is 11.59pm GMT on 26th August 2012.

NAM students who are joining UEA later than August or September 2012 should contact the UEA Accommodation Office in the first instance.

When you have decided on what type of room you would like and have read all of the relevant information please go to our How to Apply pages.

What happens after I apply for a room?

UEA Accommodation will allocate your room when we have two pieces of information:
1. Your On-line Application Form 2. You have been accepted by UEA as a Provisionally Enrolled New Student. That is to say when your prospective School of Study at UEA is satisfied that you have met all of the entry criteria. For many UK students this will be during the week after the A Level Results are published.  When you have been allocated a room you will be sent a room offer e-mail via the e-mail address you have supplied at the time of the application.  This e-mail will contain full details about your room and all the information that you need to plan your arrival at UEA.

Your room offer will be made to the e-mail address that you provided on the UEA Accommodation Preference Form. You will be given a few days to accept (or reject) the room offer after which, if you have not responded to the room offer, it will be withdrawn and the room booking cancelled.  We therefore strongly recommend that you check your e-mail account regularly to avoid disappointment. Please also ensure that you have added accom@uea.ac.uk to your safe senders list (or equivalent).

It is your responsibility to check your personal e-mail account regularly including any 'Junk Mail' or any other relevant subfolders.

What am I committing to?

On arrival you will be asked to sign a document called a Licence to Occupy and you will be legally committed to abiding by the Terms and Conditions which include paying for the room for the full licence period.  Students of AHP, NSC and MED will be offered licence periods appropriate to the length of their specific academic year. The full licence period including the start and end dates will be detailed on your room offer e-mail.

Please note that you will not be released from your licence to attend any work placements that may form part of your course.
