What Happens Next

What happens after I apply for a room?

UEA Accommodation will allocate your room when we have two pieces of information:

1. Your On-line Application Form
2. You have been accepted by UEA as a Provisionally Enrolled New Student when your prospective School of Study at UEA is satisfied that you have met all of the entry criteria.

This e-mail will contain full details about your room and all the information that you need to plan your arrival at UEA.

Your room offer will be made to the e-mail address that you provided on the UEA Accommodation Preference Form. You will be given a few days to accept (or reject) the room offer after which, if you have not responded to the room offer, it will be withdrawn and the room booking cancelled. We therefore strongly recommend that you check your e-mail account regularly to avoid disappointment.

Please also ensure that you have added accom@uea.ac.uk to your safe senders list (or equivalent).

It is your responsibilty to check your personal e-mail account regularly including any 'Junk Mail' or any other relevant subfolders.

For an overview of our activity and key dates please see our timeline.

What am I committing to?

On arrival you will be asked to sign a document called a Licence to Occupy and you will be legally committed to abiding by the Terms and Conditions which include paying for the room for the full licence period.

As such you should note that you will not be released from your UEA accommodation licence to attend fieldwork or placements.

You are also committing to abide by the House Rules.

The UEA Accommodation Office processes thousands of application forms each year, but we only allocate rooms to those applicants who have secured a place studying at UEA. Our busiest time is always from mid-August, right up to Arrivals Week, and most undergraduate students who have applied for Accommodation will get confirmation of their offer in mid-late August. Applicants should continue to check their emails during this time. Have a look at our Accommodation Diary for a clearer picture of when your room will be allocated, when you can expect to get an offer, and when you should arrive at UEA.

August to September 2011 - 1st Main Allocation Period

As soon as the A level results are released and an applicant is accepted onto a course the admissions process is complete and your prospective school of study will adjust/update your record. It is at this point that we can allocate accommodation and you will be notified of an accommodation offer by email. You must respond to this accommodation offer within the time specified, normally five days.

19th to 25th September 2011 - Arrivals Week

Accommodation offers will specify your arrival date. Your course may start before arrivals week, if so let us know. To take up your offer, you must arrive on the date stated on your licence - if you do not you may lose your offer. Arrivals days will be as follows.

21st and 22nd September 2011 - Postgraduate and International Arrivals

If you are a postgraduate student or you are coming from overseas, we have two arrivals days - the 21st and 22nd of September. We organise help with luggage, and there will be a shuttle bus for students arriving at Norwich airport.

24th and 25th September 2011 - Home Arrivals

If you are from the UK, you will be asked to arrive on either a Saturday or a Sunday, which will be either the 24th or 25th of September, depending on your allocation and licence start date - so make sure you keep both days free!

26th September 2011 - Semester Begins

Further information about key dates in the Accommodation Office year is available here.

Accommodation Offer

The accommodation offer is an e-mail which confirms your allocation into Student Residences. Your offer of accommodation will be sent by email only, to the e-mail address that you provided on application, shortly after your room has been allocated. You must ACCEPT or REJECT your accommodation offer. If you reject your offer then your accommodation allocation will be removed, this does not affect your application as a student at UEA.

Arrival Date

You must arrive on the date specified in the accommodation arrival details. If you cannot arrive on this date, please let us know in advance and we will try to hold your room for you. If you do not arrive by the start of term (26th September 2011) and have not arranged an alternative arrival date in advance (by contacting us), you may lose your allocation. For further details about arrivals see "Arriving at UEA"

Address Details

The offer letter tells you the room type and residence you have been allocated, but does not give a specific room number. Your allocation is subject to change - although we will try to make sure you keep your original allocation, we cannot guarantee it. For details about post and postal addresses see the Living in Residences section.

Payment Details

Your offer will set out the accommodation fees. Fees are payable in full, in three instalments or by monthly direct debit. There is no damage deposit to pay and payment of accommodation fees are not required in advance. For more details about invoices and payments see the Living in Residences section.

Problem with your allocation?

If there is a problem with your allocation please let us know in advance, and we may be able to help. Room changes are sometimes difficult to arrange once term has begun, but if you have any problems we will do everything we can to help - so make sure you talk to us as soon as possible.
