First Year Students (September 2013 entry)

If you will be a first year undergraduate student new to the UEA (however, please see exceptions below*) OR an International (non-EU) first year postgraduate student, you are guaranteed accommodation as a single student in University Residences, provided that you meet these requirements:

  • You are starting a full-time course at UEA in the Autumn term.
  • You are listed as a student before the end of the 24th August (11.59pm GMT on the 24th of August 2013). To list you as a new student, the University must have received your formal acceptance of an unconditional offer of a place (for more information see “What happens next?”).
  • You ensure that we have received your application for accommodation before the end of the 31st July (11.59pm GMT on the 31st July 2013).

* The following categories of students are not guaranteed accommodation:
  1. Undergraduate students joining through the Clearing process.
  2. Students who live in an approximate 12 mile radius of the UEA (see details below).
  3. Students with a UK or EU fee status starting an undergraduate course and have lived in UEA accommodation during a previous wholly or partially completed undergraduate course.
  4. Students with a UK or EU fee status starting the first year of an undergraduate course, and have lived in UEA accommodation during their foundation year.
  5. Undergraduate students who hold an insurance place for a course at UEA.

Postgraduate students arriving at any other time of the year other than September are not guaranteed accommodation but we will try to help with a room if we can.

Postgraduate Students - Home UK, EU, Part-time and Registration Only

These students are not normally eligible for University accommodation.

The Guarantee

Your guarantee is for a room in University residences (or accommodation otherwise managed by the University), not for a room of a particular type, or necessarily a single room. This means that we cannot guarantee that you will be allocated your preferred residence or type of room, but we promise to do our best. If we do not have enough single rooms to meet demand, you may be offered a twin room to share with another student of the same sex as a temporary measure. Usually, as the term progresses, we are able to offer all guaranteed students a single room of their own.
