Welcome to the UEA Accommodation page for prospective postgraduate students.
We recommend that you open up and print off our room comparison chart for postgraduate students to refer to whilst you look at the different types of accommodation available to you. You may also find it useful to refer to a map of the campus. We also strongly recommend that you attend one of the UEA Open Days or Visit Days during which you will be able to visit our accommodation and look at some of our rooms.
Students attending a Pre-sessional study course with INTO UEA before starting their postgraduate study at UEA should visit our page for them before reading further.
We hope that you also find our pages on Living in Residences and Student Residences useful.
Am I guaranteed a room in UEA residences?
Update: Please note that due to an unprecedented demand for rooms we are unable to guarantee a place in UEA accommodation for applicants who are made an offer for a course after 23rd June 2011.
As long as you meet the guarantee criteria, have been accepted by UEA as a student and have applied by the application deadline (see below) you will be guaranteed a bed in UEA accommodation (unless you have been made the offer of a place at UEA which specifically excludes the offer of a room in our residences). Please note the Accommodation Guarantee only applies to students arriving in September (or October in the case of Research Postgraduates). While we will try to help students whose courses begin at other times of the year this may not always be possible.
Both Taught (PGT) and Research (PGT) Postgraduates joining UEA in January 2012 are particularly encouraged to apply for rooms. Applications for students joining UEA in January 2012 will be invited in November 2011. Please check this page for information closer to the time.
Please click here for details about our accommodation guarantee.
How long will my contract be?
When you apply for your room you will be given the option of selecting a 38 week or 50 week accommodation licence (contract period). Please consider how long your course is likely to last before applying for your room so that we can ensure that you are accommodated for the time period that best suits your needs.
Please note if you are coming to study an INTO pre-sessional course (or other pre-sessional course such as statistics or law) before your main postgraduate study DO NOT include this period in your calculation of how long you think your contract should be.
The 38 week licence runs from 21st September 2011 to the 16th of June 2012. Any "extra" accommodation you may require (e.g. for Pre-sessional courses or if you choose to stay at UEA for summer 2011) will be added to this and not included in it.
The 50 week licence runs from 21st September 2011 to the 1st of September 2012. Again this does not include any Pre-sessional courses which you may be required to attend. Accommodation for Pre-sessional courses will be arranged separately.
The 38 or 50 week contract is for your UEA Postgraduate study only.
Special Notice For Students Studying an MBA or Other Course That Begins in January/February/April 2012
Applications are now invited for UEA residences from January 2012. However, please note that the number of rooms that we have is very limited and at this stage we will only be considering applications from Overseas fee status students who have never studied at the UEA before. While we are welcoming applications there is no guarantee that we will be able to offer a room to everyone that applies and you may have to find alternative accommodation in the private sector if we are unable to help. We will keep all applicants informed as to the status of their applications and will try to let those that are unsuccessful know as soon as possible so as to give you the longest possible time to find an alternative room in Norwich.
We apologise but we are not considering any applications from UK or EU Postgraduates without welfare reasons for needing a room at this time.
Please read all of the appropriate information before completing and submitting your form. When submitting your form please fill out a "Postgraduate 38 week" application. Do not be concerned that the number of weeks shown on the form does not match up to your course, we will contact you about your contract if you are successful in securing a room.

When should I plan to arrive at UEA
For postgraduate students the arrivals days are Wednesday the 21st and Thursday the 22nd of September 2011. You will be able to collect your key from 10am until 8pm from the LCR (see Campus Map). However, we recommend that you plan to arrive before 5pm when all of the shops, banks, schools of study are open.
For students not arriving in September the date that you should arrive will be on the offer letter that you recieve from us. This date will normally tie in with the dates of the course that you are coming to the UEA to undertake.
When should I apply?
The application form will be available in late May (date to be confirmed). Please ensure that you have read the Terms and Conditions of the Licence before you complete that application form. There is no rush (deadline and guarantee information is below) so please take time to read through all the information and to consider your preferences.
The application deadline is 11.59pm GMT on 26th August 2011 for Postgraduate Research students (PGR) and 11.59pm GMT on the 31st of July 2011 for Postgraduate Taught students (PGT).
For students applying for January entry to the UEA there is no application deadline as such but there is also no guarantee of a room with us. We will allocate the rooms that we have available on a first come first served basis to eligilbe students until all rooms are taken.
When you have decided on what type of room you would like and have read all of the relevant information please go to our 'Apply for a Room' pages.
What happens after I apply for a room?
UEA Accommodation will allocate your room when we have two pieces of information:
1. Your On-line Application Form
2. You have been accepted by UEA as a Provisionally Enrolled New Student. That is to say when your prospective School of Study at UEA is satisfied that you have met all of the entry criteria.
This e-mail will contain full details about your room and all the information that you need to plan your arrival at UEA.
Your room offer will be made to the e-mail address that you provided on the UEA Accommodation Preference Form. You will be given a few days to accept (or reject) the room offer after which, if you have not responded to the room offer, it will be withdrawn and the room booking cancelled. We therefore strongly recommend that you check your e-mail account regularly to avoid disappointment.
Please also ensure that you have added accom@uea.ac.uk to your safe senders list (or equivalent).
It is your responsibilty to check your personal e-mail account regularly including any 'Junk Mail' or any other relevant subfolders.
For an overview of our activity and key dates please see our timeline.
What am I committing to?
On arrival you will be asked to sign a document called a Licence to Occupy and you will be legally committed to abiding by the Terms and Conditions which include paying for the room for the full licence period.
As such you should note that you will not be released from your UEA accommodation licence to attend fieldwork or placements.
You are also committing to abide by the House Rules.
