UEA league table success continues with national 20th ranking

Mon, 29 Apr 2013

The University of East Anglia is celebrating a run of league table triumphs, following today's announcement that UEA is ranked 20th in the Complete University Guide.

This latest success comes after UEA secured top spot in last week's Student Experience Survey - based on student opinions of all aspects of university from teaching to social life.

Entering the top 20 in the Complete University Guide for the first time, UEA has climbed seven places from 27th, the highest advancement of all the region's universities.

The guide, which ranks 124 universities, sees Cambridge University retain the number one spot. A university's position in the table is determined by its scores in nine areas, including student satisfaction, research assessment, spending on academic services and graduate prospects.

A separate listing scores 67 individual subjects at only the leading institutions. UEA appears in 31 of these subject tables, with three subjects in the top ten nationally; American Studies, Communications & Media Studies, and Pharmacology and Pharmacy.

Also announced on last week was UEA's place in the top 100 in the CWTS Leiden Ranking 2013, which focuses on research excellence. The university is 90th in the world and 14th in the UK.

Pro-vice chancellor for research, enterprise & engagement, Prof David Richardson, said: "The news that UEA has risen up this league table, hot on the heels of our first place ranking for student experience last week, can only strengthen our reputation as a top class university offering the very best for our students and staff.

"We have been high in the rankings for a number of years, but to rise by seven places into the top 20 demonstrates the ongoing commitment to improvement in our 50th anniversary year and is testament to the hard work and commitment of everyone at UEA, from academic to support staff and our students."
