Rima Al-Balushi

Research interest: My work is in model theory. I am studying model theoretic properties of some mathematical structures. Precisely, I am interested in the model theory of algebraically closed fields with an extra function of one or two variables where the model theory is well-behaved.




Sharifa Al-Mahrouqi

Research interest: I am interested in studying the interaction between banach space theory and set theory, in particular, the field of nonseparable Banach spaces.There are some outstanding problems that were solved using some easily quoted results from set theory, whose statements are clear even to those who have no previous knowledge of mathematical logic. There is much scope for further work and I am planning to attack some of the remaining problems.

Research interest:: I am looking at pcf theory, a recent technique in combinatorial set theory which introduces operations on infinite cardinals that are untouchable by the method of forcing. There is a wealth of questions introduced by pcf, starting with Shelah's hypothesis that the pcf(a) is countable for a countable set to the question of finding a better lower bound in Shelah's aleph_omega theorem. I am considering some of these outstanding open problems.

Research interest: I am interested in Boolean algebras that carry measures. More specifically Maharam algebras and the corresponding sequential topology. I am particularly interested in Talagrand's construction of a non-measurable Maharam algebra.
